Cherry, president of Women Artists of the West (2019-2020) has received the Bronze Medal at the Western Regional Oil Painters of America show, and the Best of the Masters award from the Women Artists of the West, and has been included in the permanent collection of several art museums. She is a Master member/Emeritus of the Women Artists of the West and a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Cherry’s work is in the permanent collection of several art museums, including the Phippen Western Art Museum in Arizona, the Eastern Idaho Art Museum, and she has had a one woman show at the Clymer Art Museum in Washington.

Cherry was raised in rural Montana near the Yellowstone River. Her folks were big Charlie Russell fans, which boosted her interest in western art at an early age. Her mother put a paintbrush in her hand when she was eight and her dad sketched horses, especially buckin’ broncs, rattlesnakes and a lot of other non-girly things for her on newsprint from an old lined pad of paper.

Now Cherry has a home studio near Idaho Falls, Idaho where she lives near the Snake River—not far from Jackson, Wyoming, and the Teton Mountain range where wildlife and birds are plentiful (and make great subject matter). She also has a downtown Idaho Falls art studio above the Willard Art Council, one of the area’s historic buildings.

In that elusive free time, Cherry writes short stories and the Jessie O’Bourne art mystery series—murder mysteries with an artist protagonist. Find them on Amazon or visit her author’s website at maryanncherry.net
